The New Yesterday is a sci-fi webcomic that mixes humour, action, political commentary, and swashbuckling space adventure! Inspired by things like Star Trek, Final Fantasy, and genre-defining books like 1984, Brave New World, and the Foundation series, TNY attempts to make the old feel new again.

With this comic, I intend to tell a sprawling, 13 book story about the collapse of a galactic civilization, and the people just trying to survive. Thirteen books is a LONG story, especially for a webcomic where I do all the work (that is, writing, and art, and promotion). So I am coming to Patreon for your help!

Small donations from many readers could eventually make this my day job! If you like the story, and want to see more of it, much faster, please consider donating to the cause! Check out the Patreon page for special donation perks, and a set of goals: the more pledges, the faster TNY updates!

And if you can’t donate, that’s cool too – your readership is more than enough for me!

Prologue

Prologue

So we begin on a starry night by a campfire. A young man named ADAM has arrived after days of travelling. Once a year since he was a child, Adam has met with the old hermit who lives on the mountain in hopes that he will finally hear the story of his father’s murder.

The hermit’s name is MALIK. He has promised Adam that he will one day tell the boy about his father’s killer, the mysterious SID. But every year, Malik decides Adam’s still not ready, and sends him home.

After a bit of humming and hawing, Malik gives in, puts out the fire, and takes adam under his wing.

We flash back 22 years where we learn that Malik was once a buttoned-down corporate stooge. He spent nearly 40 years of his life working for a company known as PLANETFALL under strict watch from the dogmatic, uncompromising government known only as the NATION. One day, though, our man decides he has had enough. He grabs a bunch of company secrets and releases them to the world.

Not surprisingly, within hours of his stunt he is apprehended by the Nation’s very own Police/Military/Propaganda Machine, the AUTHORITY and taken to an unnamed prison facility.

The Comic

It all came to an end over twenty years ago.

This big, galactic civilization came crashing down. Decades later a man who survived the chaos tells his story to a boy too young to remember. The guy’s name is Malik, and before the fall, he was just a regular corporate nobody.

But when Malik finds out that his company is up to some shady business, he is compelled to publish their secrets. Get the truth out. It doesn’t take long for the totalitarian Nation to catch on, and our story starts when Malik is sent to prison.

There, he meets members of a shadowy resistance group, and a street punk who thinks he can see the future – and together they plot a daring escape! Malik’s new life is just beginning, as the world itself is ending.
